Rainham – Live

As from 6th March I shall be streaming live from RSPB Rainham Marshes each month. Each stream will clarify what any visitor is likely to see that month as well as look at “what’s through the lens” that day. Join us at: https://www.youtube.com/user/psamuels31/live around 11.00am

Big Garden Bird Watch – Live Stream

If all goes well I shall be live streaming from RSPB Rainham Marshes on Friday at 11.00am. Talking about the Big Garden Bird Watch taking place this weekend, with Howard Vaughan, Pat Hart et al. You can watch from here: https://www.youtube.com/user/psamuels31/
Recorded version will be available if you miss it.

Live Streaming Testing

Preparations for live-streaming are now almost complete and I hope to be doing a test session (possibly from Rainham Marshes) on Wednesday 10th Jan. I’m using the software encoder OBS in conjunction with an Elgato Cam-Link HDMI capture device and two cameras. At the moment my small laptop can’t cope with the usb bandwidth for two Cam-Links so one camera will be a normal usb webcam. The other is my A7s2. The more difficult aspect is balancing the audio using the A7s2 microphone for both camera views but I think I’ve got that worked out now using OBS. We shall see! I’m using a 4G up-link. (The force is strong, I think).

Love Snow?

Another experiment with iphone5 filming. Put (thrown!) together in 30 mins filming and about 1 hr’s editing with DaVinci Resolve 14

iphone Experiments

I have never been a fan of films made on mobile phones but it is said that the best camera is the one you have with you. When I found myself in that situation I decided to reconsider. There are obvious limitations but it does re-emphasise the fact that content is the most important feature of any film rather than the technology. Having both together is undoubtedly best. I decided to give it a try when looking for fungi and deer in Epping Forest in Autumn and was struck by the wonderful spectrum of colours as well as spotting a small group of fallow deer.

I also tried at a fireworks display which seemed to work slightly better.

Filmed on an iphone5 and edited in DaVinci Resolve 14.

Filming for Project Malachi

Have spent a very enjoyable fortnight filming 8 episodes to promote Project Malachi, a pop-up hostel for rough sleepers in Redbridge. It is much needed and a very welcome extension to the Redbridge Winter Night Shelter which has been open for 6 years.
